SuperWhisper is a good Mac app
I want to be upfront about that. SuperWhisper runs Whisper locally, has solid transcription quality, and the lifetime pricing option means you’re not locked into a subscription. If I were a Mac-only developer, I’d seriously consider it.
But I’m on Windows. And so are a lot of developers.
SuperWhisper recently shipped a Windows version, but it’s behind the Mac app on features. No Linux. If you’re on Windows and want the full experience, or you’re on Linux at all, SuperWhisper isn’t there yet.
Where SuperWhisper and Invoke overlap
Both run Whisper locally. Both do push-to-talk. Both keep your audio on your machine. The core idea is the same: speak, get text, move on.

Where they differ
SuperWhisper added custom modes and external LLM support, so it does have AI reformatting now. You can bring your own API key for GPT-4, Claude, etc. and write custom prompts for how your transcription gets processed. Credit where it’s due — that’s a solid feature.
Where Invoke’s reformatter goes further is project context. It doesn’t just clean up your speech — it reads your CLAUDE.md, package.json, git history, and understands your stack. So when you say “add a post endpoint for user off,” Invoke knows you meant “authentication” because it can see your codebase. SuperWhisper’s modes are general-purpose text processing. Invoke’s reformatter is developer-specific.
The other big difference is platform. SuperWhisper is Mac-first. They shipped a Windows version, but it’s behind on features. I built Invoke on Windows because that’s what I use. CUDA acceleration on NVIDIA cards, auto-paste via pynput, the whole stack works natively. If you have an NVIDIA GPU, it just uses it.

The pricing math
SuperWhisper’s monthly plan is $8.49. That’s $102/year. Their lifetime option is around $250.
Invoke is $49 once with a year of updates, or $79 for lifetime updates. Even the lifetime tier costs less than SuperWhisper’s lifetime option.
I’m biased here, obviously. But the math is the math.
When SuperWhisper is the better choice
If you’re on a Mac with Apple Silicon and you don’t need reformatting, SuperWhisper is fine. It’s a solid app with a clean Mac-native UI. I have no complaints about their transcription quality.
If you need Windows or Linux support, or you want your dictation reformatted into actual prompts with project context, that’s what Invoke does.
